Breakfast with the Chancellor
This week at VIS Junior High, Chancellor Huang started off his mornings by sharing breakfast with students from different classes, taking the time to connect with them and welcome newcomers into the VIS community.
In addition to students sharing stories from their winter break and Lunar New Year celebrations, Chancellor Huang also took the opportunity to introduce several summer learning opportunities. He previewed the CIC Summer Camp and English Credit Course in partnership with our Canadian partner school, CIC, for Grade 6 students, and spoke with Grade 8 students about CIC English Credit Course + McMaster STEM Program, giving them new ideas and inspiration as they begin planning their future learning paths.
During the breakfast conversation, Chancellor Huang also shared a book he has recently been reading in Taiwanese, Ji̍t-hue Siám-sih (#日花閃爍), written by author Un Jio̍k-kiâu (#溫若喬). The work is a collection of one hundred poems written in rare Taiwanese vocabulary. The Chancellor invited Grade 7 student Lotus, who previously participated in a Taiwanese Hakka language Junior High School Language Competition, to recite one of the poems, Tshâ-hue (柴花). Her reading captivated the audience and added a meaningful touch of culture and language to the morning gathering.
