Former Representative to Austria, Katharine Chang, also spoke at the launch event, sharing her experiences in hosting foreign visitors and introducing Taiwan to international audiences. She emphasized that effectively conveying Taiwan’s history, culture, and unique local character is crucial to global engagement—an idea that aligns perfectly with the core mission of both the Discover Taipei book and curriculum.

Ambassador Chang also reflected on her encounters with VIS students during their educational trips to Europe, recalling how deeply impressed she was by their dedication and enthusiasm. She commended their academic attitude and global outlook, encouraging them to continue honing their language skills and cross-cultural communication abilities. By doing so, she noted, they can ensure that Taiwan’s stories are heard worldwide and truly embrace the role of global citizens.

The creation of Discover Taipei was made possible through a collaboration with StoryStudio, led by founder Mr. Fengen Tu. He highlighted three key elements behind the curriculum’s success: clear goals, experiential learning, and hands-on application. Rather than adhering strictly to a fixed syllabus, the course embraces a student-centered approach, adapting to each learner’s strengths, interests, and discoveries—transforming education into a personalized, immersive experience.

In this dynamic learning environment, students are not merely passive recipients of knowledge but active participants in their educational journey. They are encouraged to think critically, explore deeply, and forge meaningful connections between the past and present. This approach cultivates both analytical minds and historically aware individuals, empowering students to view the world through a broader, more insightful lens and ultimately, to write their own stories through the integration of knowledge and action.
