G7 Ranee

Artwork from our student G7 Ranee: Orchid Island Flying fish festival. What is the story behind this marvelous piece of artwork? Let’s listen to what Ranee says:
Each year from April to September, Orchid Island enters the Flying fish festival. The men of the Yami clan will sail on “Tatala,” a unique boat of the Yami clan to fish for the Flying fish. All kinds of flying fish jump from the surface, it seems to be harvest season.
There is a well-known myth about Orchid Island. In ancient days, people would eat flying fish and different seafood together and caused people to become sick. One day the god of a black-wing flying fish appeared in an elder’s dream and taught him how to cook flying fish correctly. The elder then passed this newfound knowledge on and started a fish-eating ceremony. This is the tradition of the flying fish festival.
I really want to join the flying fish festival, and I hope this tradition lasts forever.
