Taipei as Classroom Series
On Monday afternoon, students in the Discover Taipei course went on a trip to the 228 Peace Memorial Park with Ms. Hsieh and Mr. Larsen-Strecker.
The students strolled through the former "Taihoku Koen," where the National Taiwan Museum, the old Taihoku Hosokyoku (now the Taipei 228 Memorial Museum), the 228 Peace Monument, Chinese-style pavilions, and an outdoor stage still stand. These landmarks were the focus of the students' visit; they witnessed the evolving times and the transformation of the landscape. With worksheets they had been working on, the students pieced together the various landmarks to connect them to major historical events in Taiwan, and they will write their own final guided tour presentation.
As a core course of VIS, Discover Taipei aims to encourage students to engage with cities and understand the world, connecting every learning experience to real-world contexts. Only by seeing and understanding can knowledge be imprinted in their mind, and only then can students tell the story of this city.
